HONESTY IN CORRUPTION

by, DIGANTA OZA

Corruption is seen and felt in every transaction from bottom of the chain till the top. Though corruption become an increasingly important factor in every elections, it becomes a widespread factor in India. India is ranked 84 out of a 180 countries in Transparency International's Corruption Perceptions Index. For last sixty years, corrupt politicians and officials are looting India. Is not it a crime? And are not they are criminals? Today more than 50% of the people have firsthand experience of paying bribe or peddling influence to get a job done in a public office. And corruption is not always about money, but abusing power too. The first instance of such type of power abusing was shown by late Indira Gandhi during emergency.

We are living in a state of complete anarchy. In July 2008 The Washington Post reported that nearly a fourth of the 540 Indian Parliament members faced criminal charges, including rape and murder. Inspite of all these and these anti-incumbent sentiment among its electorate is not so persistent. Otherwise since 1971 election, only one ruling party would not been reelected to power in the central government. Contrary to center, Anti-incumbent sentiment is a bit strong at the state level. But the basic problem remains inevitable, becouse a corrupt person is always cent percent honest in corruption!
