365 days, 24 hours, 60 minutes…

Every year whether you want it or not, there is one certain change in your room--the calendar. The old one is replaced by a new beautiful one, with the hope that the coming days will be as good as the pretty calendar. There is nothing wrong in a beautiful hope and so there is no dearth of lavish calendars. Then one day I got this shocking calendar with the face of a weeping woman, captioned ‘Tell me friend, is revolution a right to kill?’ The whole year, any day, any minute, any second whenever you cast a glance at the calendar she will be piercing our hearts with this question.

This calendar is published by ‘Elite Computers’ in memory of Rajib Sarma, who was a founder of the organization but lost his life on the fateful day of 9-th January, 2009 in a bomb blast in Maligaon, Guwahati leaving behind his family including his newly wed bride.

In the past two decades Assam and many other places in the world is experiencing the blunt of terrorism. Innocent people are becoming the victims of terror acts. The lingering pain of the loss remains in the hearts of those who suffer. But, for most others this loss remains a news item fading fast to oblivion. People are confusing the line between revolution and terrorism.

Every life lost has personal significance, but life that is lost to causes like terrorism has a social significance too. Isn’t it high time that we all come forward and ask in unison with the weeping woman every day at least once--‘Is revolution a right to kill?’ Transcription: Dr.Uddip Talukdar (artist of the painting)
